We arrived into Wellington that evening leaving not a lot of time to get up to much. Myself, Courtnie, Casey, Erika and Cahal just headed out into town for a few Beers and some food.
Day 1: We all decided to give ourselves an extra day in Wellington. I only spent a night here on the way up and wanted some more time to explore the city, being New Zealand's capital.
We headed out late morning for some breakfast and to do a bit of shopping in preparation for the south island. A couple of us didn't have much in the way of warm clothes so we thought it might be wise to get some with temperatures dropping throughout the south. It felt pretty cold on the north island so we were hoping it wouldn't be too bad.
After some shopping and wondering around the city centre for a few hours, we spent the afternoon at Te Papa - New Zealand's National Museum. It's pretty cool and was well worth checking out. The best thing to see is a glass box that contains the world's largest squid and there was also a video showing how they caught it. It's huge.
That evening, I headed to my second New Zealand Rugby game as the Wellington Crusaders hosted Auckland Blues at the Westpac Arena. The other 4 also came and it was the first taste of Rugby for our American and Canadian friends, which meant a fair bit of rule explanation from myself and Cahal (interesting since I don't know them all myself).
A pretty entertaining game ended with a Crusaders victory so the locals were happy. Auckland gave a better account of themselves than they had against Queensland but they still weren't up to much. The losing streak continues.
Walking back from the game, we took a stroll to see Wellington by night.
A pretty nice city but 2 nights is enough here really. Ferry back to the south island tomorrow.
